So I’m sitting here at the computer with sweat running down my back (apologies for the image) - it’s so damn HOT today! English summer, tshh. We wait all year for some hot weather and now it’s finally here - but it’s so…sticky! Seems it’s an English tradition to complain about how other countries have a “different kind of heat” - but it’s true!
Still, enough complaining. Days like this mean one of two things, either a) a barbecue (traditionally in England this is all the meat you can lay your hands on, from sausages through to burgers all in the same meal) or b) salad. I’m opting for the latter since I binned my barbecue in protest about the poor weather a month or so ago.
A Greek Salad is the ultimate in simplicity and tastes delicious. We enjoyed ours with tzatziki and crusty bread creating glorious memories of our honeymoon in Chania, Crete…
Note: There’s two exciting things happening this month you need to know about. Number one, I’m hosting “Does My Blog Look Good In This” - so make sure to check out the gallery. Number two, Julia at “A Slice of Cherry Pie” is hosting the seasonal food blogging challenge “In the Bag“. Check them out!
Greek Salad Recipe - Ingredients (Serves 2 comfortably)
- 4 medium Vine Tomatoes
- 1 block of Feta Cheese
- 1 Cucumber
- 1 Red Onion
- 1 Handful Kalamata olives
- Oregano (optional)
Greek Salad Recipe - Method
Dead easy this one. Dice up the tomatoes and cucumber and place in a bowl. Peel and slice the onion and add with the olives. Sprinkle in a oregano and pepper and then toss it all around with your hands. Place in bowls with the feta cheese on top (as illustrated), drizzle with good quality olive oil and enjoy!

Come on its a tradition to complain about the weather here isn’t it! I love Greek Salad - and I love Greece (especially Crete), wish I was there now - well maybe not right now as we’re having great weather here - but as soon as it breaks whisk me away please.

beth: I’d love to go to Greece right now, too. Maybe later in the year (is Greece still hot in September?)…

I’m loving this weather, I’ve been looking forward to it all year! But damn, the train was horrible coming home last night. Urgh, I was sweaty and sticky and couldn’t wait to get home and jump in the shower. Great picture of the salad BTW.

That looks amazing! I wish I was having that for lunch instead of cold pasta w/tomatoes, cucumbers and basil.
Really cool idea about serving the salad with a big chunk of feta instead of feta crumbles.

Oh I know! Tell me about that stickiness. Yesterday on the tube was just horrendous. Cooler today though which is such a relief.
A Greek salad sounds just the ticket for this weather - yours looks fresh as a daisy!

That looks good Scott, we must be on the same wave length, both posting Greek salad and remembering our honeymoons!

Wow…looks great & ever so easy. Looks like blogs across are exploding with Greek salads…looks scrumptious & so fresh. Can your summer beat our hot & humid Indian summer??? Ughhhhhhhhh!! It’s been too hot for too long here…

It’s sad though that English summer doesn’t last long! I plan to have BBQ this weekend, so the weather better be nice..
Other than that, they are mostly seafood
The only meat I use for BBQ is chicken - I make satay

I know we always complain but, the heat IS different in other countries! Anyway, we’ve made up for it since with a few days of lovely rain. Mmm, I’m not sure which I prefer, London smog in the heat or London smog in the rain, it’s a tough call. Your Greek salad on the other hand looks wonderfully fresh and not at all smoggy.

Looks really, really good. I am a big fan of greek salads. That seems like a pretty simple recipe that could be one of my favorites. I like the image or rather photo, it makes my mouth water.
