There’s a been a meme circulating the blog world for quite a while now called “5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me”. I’ve already participated once, but was tagged again a while back by Vanessa from What Geeks Eat.
So, without further ado, here’s 5 more things that you didn’t know (or care) about me…
1. I’m super-retro when it comes to computer games. I’m currently playing the entire Dizzy series, originally from the 1980s and 90s. Hands up if you remember Dizzy the adventuring egg? What do you mean, you don’t? Am I the only crazy guy here?
2. I lost my last job through foodblogging. Ok, so it wasn’t quite that simple - but the point remains, that bosses don’t like you using the internet when you should be working.
3. My christmas gifts this year were great. They included a pasta machine, signed book / dvd of A Cook On The Wild Side by Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, and a tea box set with some delicious fruity loose teas and an infuser. You’re not impressed? Pah!
4. I’m typing this from my Brother in law’s computer in Poland (I’m here on vacation right now). By the time you read this, I might not be.
5. I can’t think of a number 5. H0w about some useless trivia - I’m a big fan of both Billy Connolly (Scottish comedian) and Stephen King. Did I mention that in my first “5 Things” article? I really can’t remember…
I can’t think of many people to tag here who haven’t already done this meme before. So I’ll tag Cherry, Trig, Antony, Julia (her response here, and Dagmar. If any of you guys have already done this I apologise, but feel free to either ignore or play along as you see fit.
Back with another recipe in the next few days!

Did you ever play Dangerous Dave? I wish I still had it…

Apparently your boss wasn’t suitably impressed with your ability to muti-task - how short-sighted!

DIZZY!!!!!!!! I’d forgotten all about Dizzy! Fantastic stuff
Thanks for the tag. I’ve done this one before but I’ll see if I can come up with 5 more things. I can’t promise they’ll be all that interesting though!

I used to play dizzy too I’d forgotten all about it.

Thanks for tagging me, which reminds me that I havn’t even written the first “five things” which I was tagged for by someone else. But I’ll try to post it soon

An egg??? Even as a lad you were a foodie! I love the old Mario games but I always fall off the platforms…no balance even digitally. Enjoy your vacation.

Have you used the pasta machine yet?!
April 22nd, 2007 at 12:39 pm
Brilynn: Unfortunately not. Looks like one from my “era” though.
Katie: Absolutely. Some people just don’t know talent.
Julie: Mine surely weren’t all that interesting either? I’m sure anything we can learn will bring us all closer together. In a respectful way, of course!
antony: I had until I came across a fansite on the internet with lots of free Dizzy games. So I’m now going through a “dizzy phase”.
dagmar: We’ll look forward to it!
Vanessa: I went from an Amstrad to an Amiga to various Sega consoles. So unfortunately missed the whole Mario thing in favour of Sonic the Hedgehog!
Margaret: Nope. I’ll try and get around to it within the coming weeks and post an article of some hopefully successful home-made pasta.

I am THOROUGHLY impressed by your pasta machine Xmas present. Culinary gadgets make the best gifts. I got my husband an ice cream maker a few years back, and if that machine doesn’t cause wide grins every summer… : )

Poland! I hope you are going to share photos with us.

Ari (Baking and Books): But of course. I’m back in the UK now and will write a post within the next few days

Ahh, I remember the good old days of playing on the Spectrum ZX, Jet Set Willy and all those almost unplayable games now! I downloaded an emulater a while back and could not get used to the ZX QW interface for controlling the game!
April 23rd, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Freya: I had an Amstrad back in the day, but one of my friends had a ZX. We used to play “Gladiator” all the time. As I remember, the games back then were so much better despite the graphics being appaling by current standards!
New games seem to lack any feel in my opinion. Walk around and shoot, or drive around. That’s about all there is, isn’t it?

eek… so you’ve been “dooced”? well, it’s his loss, not yours! good to hear that you were having a good holiday in poland, and look forward to the next write up
April 23rd, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Lil: What’s “dooced”? I guess it must be an american word
Thanks for the good wishes - my holiday was great and I’ll try to write about it tommorow!

I love reading peoples’ lists! I’m also quite the vintage video game geek. I was quite the “frogger” and “load runner” champion in my atari days. And I still mourn the loss of our Nintendo set- the super mario song haunts my nightmares to this day- lol!
I got saffron and cardamom pods for x-mas, and a gift certificate to Trader Joe’s (American specialty grocery). I was in seventh heaven!

P.S. I sympathize with your blogging-related job loss… I’m putting my degree in danger by being utterly addicted to blogging! Bad, Bazu, bad.
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:32 pm
bazu: It’s great to receive presents you actually want for xmas, isn’t it? Incidentally, I’m studying for a degree (from home) too.

Good thing I am self employed or I’m sure I would be fired for food blogging too.
April 24th, 2007 at 11:11 am
peabody: Ah, self employment is but a dream for me. My imagination isn’t good enough to think up a commodity that people will be interested enough in to give me their money

Sh*t!
Scott, so sorry that I missed this tag. I have been up to my eyeballs in moving and I failed to see this post properly. I shall think of my five things….. after I have been allowed to return from Coventry of course!

Cherry Menlove: I never heard such language from a lady!
No problem, concentrate on moving. I know how stressful that can be! Just don’t forget to play along with your 5 things later…
