Everyone knows what an apple is but I’m honestly surprised anyone buys them in the shops between September and November – apple trees can be seen everywhere from roadsides to woodland, and the fruit is free for the taking.

We have a small woods not 5 minutes from our house with several varieties growing, and we happily pick more than I can figure out what to do with!

Try preserving some by making apple sauce or even trying your hand at cider or apple wine – you won’t regret it!
