Sea Buckthorn - in season now, the delicious juice makes picking these little berries well worth braving the sharp thorns!
Love the flavour of these, but oh, they are so hard to pick. It’s not just the thorns, they tend to squige in your fingers when picking too!
They do; I’m fond of squishing them off into a bowl. They’re just as good as mush! Most of what I forage goes into the freezer for a while anyway.
Good point – I guess it’s just being organised enough to have bowls on hand. We don’t usually go out on purpose to forage, but do so if we’re out walking. Usually have a few plastic bags on us just in case!
I did better! Snipped off branches (small bits!) and stuck them into a basket. Put to the freezer at home and picked the berries off when frozen. Worked great!
