Haws - or Hawthorns - are in season now. They're perfect for making Hawthorn Ketchup! Did you know the leaves are edible, too?
Is there any difference between hawthorn and pyracanthus? Are both their berries edible? We have a hedge if red and yellow…
Hi! They’re not the same, but pyracanthus berries are edible! They taste awful if you don’t cook them, though, so try making them into a jam
Hi Scott, I don’t think I can get these in Australia? Do you have a recipe for the ketchup though? I might try them with something else!
Hi, There’s a good version of the recipe here: http://nipitinthebud.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/making-saucy-haw-ketchup/
I’ll be giving it a go myself this weekend.
Simply beautifully captured shot…lovely!
Thankyou…there are so many this year … it’s a great early autumn for foraging.
