At Christmas I always find myself reaching for one of Nigella Lawson’s great cookbooks. This year is no exception, and I make no apologies for reproducing this fantastic recipe from Nigella Christmas. First, it is deceptively delicious, and second it is the perfect accompaniment to the Beef Tagine I cooked a couple of days ago. And just look at those colours!

Pomegranate, Onion and Coriander Salad
The ingredients might sound weird, but what you end up with is a sweet and sour flavoured salad which doesn’t taste onioney.
This has got to be worth a try, hasn’t it?
Pomegranate, Onion and Coriander Salad
(ingredients are in bold below)
- Finely slice 2 red onions.
- Cover with the juice of 2 limes and 1 pomegranate, eave for 30 minutes then drain the juice.Leave for 30 minutes then drain and dispose the juice (this is what takes away the onion flavour).
- Add the pomegranate seeds and a handful of chopped coriander and you’re done!

That is one beautiful looking salad.
I agree. Tasty, too!
Very different, very colourful, and very worth a try.
After doing it myself, got to agree. The taste is totally unexpected.
Wow – what a powerful combination. Beautiful… I somehow just can’t imagine what it tastes like though!
Sharp, sweet and sour. Not really like onions at all, thankfully!
