Scott, I love your blog. I’m so glad I found it through HomemadeS and the “In the Bag” event. I love the idea behind this event, and will keep my eye on your blog to jump in sometime. This evening I’ll be making a cake of Nigella’s as well (an Orange Cake – already posted on my blog but definitely worth repeating). I’d love to give this one a try soon!

Your post reawakens so many memories. My Mum, Aida, who immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, and found a job in a factory, just loved me and my brother.

Then my “father” who was a milkman, ran off with a 19-year-old floozie, abandoning his family.

But, nonetheless, I often prepared my Mum Aida birthday cakes before she died in that terrible nursing home because me and my brother didn’t have the money to get her some proper care.

Now that I am famous (the SENIOR ADVISER, and the personal conceirge to Mr. Ed Levine. of the Serious Eats website), I feel so sad that I could not have done more for my mother Aida.

But, I loved your post. Thank you.
